2016 Gauteng Youth in Construction Expo to take place 7-11 March

YIC 2016YIC has grown to a well-recognized successful exhibition in the industry and the 2016 Gauteng Expo will again be held at the Sci-Bono Discovery Centre in Newtown, Johannesburg, from 7 – 11 March 2016.

The Youth in Construction initiative is an industry initiative of the SA Forum of Civil Engineering Contractors (SAFCEC), the SA Institution of Civil Engineering (SAICE), the Master Builders Association North (MBA North), and Consulting Engineers South Africa (CESA) in support of engineering and construcion skills required to budget, procure, instruct, maintain and operate infrastructure. It is focused on the importance of the construction industry as a national asset and the critical link to skills development, infrastructure creation and service delivery. The exhibition is targeted at grade 9 - 12 learners as well as tertiary and college students in construction - related learning areas and the importance of maths and science is emphasized.

The exhibition offers stakeholders across the industry the following opportunities: -
  • identify learners to engage in bursaries and study programmes
  • show young learners the diversity of the industry and the best that the industry can offer in skills and opportunities
  • provide role models for business, entrepreneurs and out of school youth
  • give young South Africans hope
  • assist companies in achieving BBBEE targets and industry (CSI/SED)
